Quick answers

How do I create a Remnant?

From the dashboard, tap "Create a Remnant" (or the "+" if you already have one). You'll be asked for a name, your relationship to them, a description of their personality, and any traits or shared memories that capture who they were. Voice archetype suggestions and trait chips help if you're not sure where to start. Then you upload at least 30 seconds of clear audio to clone their voice. Three minutes is optimal.

What kind of audio works best?

Voicemails, video clips with clear speech, voice memos, or dedicated recordings all work. MP3, WAV, and M4A formats are supported (50 MB max per file).

For best results: a quiet room, no background music, one person speaking at a time. The guided recording session inside the app walks you through five scripted prompts that tend to produce the cleanest clone.

The progress bar on the upload page tells you exactly where you stand: 30 seconds minimum, 60 seconds acceptable, 120 seconds good, 180 seconds optimal.

Can I edit a Remnant after creating them?

Yes. Open the Remnant from your dashboard, tap "Settings" or the gear icon, and you can change their name, relationship, personality description, traits, memories, religion/faith, language, and voice settings (speed, stability, clarity, style) at any time.

How do I delete a Remnant or close my account?

To delete one Remnant: open them from your dashboard and use the delete option on the profile detail page. This removes the profile, their cloned voice, and all conversations with them.

To close your entire account: go to Account → "Close account" at the bottom of the page. This permanently deletes your user record, every Remnant you've created, every recording you've uploaded, and every conversation. It requires your password and a typed DELETE confirmation, and it cannot be undone.

Why is the voice quality different on different days?

Voice cloning quality depends heavily on the source recordings. The more clean audio we have, the more consistently the clone matches. If you'd like to improve the voice, the simplest path is to upload more recordings — even short voicemails help — and then adjust the voice settings (stability, clarity, similarity) on the profile detail page.

The microphone isn't working on my phone

On iOS: Settings → Privacy & Security → Microphone, and also → Speech Recognition. Make sure Remnant AI has permission to both. Both are required.

On Android: Settings → Apps → Remnant AI → Permissions → Microphone. Make sure it's allowed.

If permissions are granted but the mic still doesn't work, close and reopen the app once. If it still doesn't work after that, email us with your device model and we'll dig in.

Is my data private?

Yes. Your recordings, voice clones, and conversations belong to your account and are not shared with anyone. We never sell your data. We do not use your recordings or conversations to train general AI models.

I'm grieving and the app is hard for me

Grief doesn't follow rules. Use Remnant AI when it helps; set it down when it doesn't. If you'd like to step away for a while, your account and conversations will be here when you come back.

Remnant AI is not a substitute for professional support. If you're struggling, a grief counselor or therapist can help in ways the app cannot. In the US, the SAMHSA helpline (1-800-662-HELP) offers free, confidential referrals 24/7.
